Dion Phaneuf One Of The Best

Hockey is king in Canada and most people there play hockey at some level even if it’s only recreational. Many will know or have heard of the better stars of the game. One of the true stars of the NHL, for those of you who haven’t heard of him, is Dion Phaneuf. Phaneuf is a 26-year old Canadian sensation ho plays defense. He’s currently captaining the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL.

Overall, this bright young player got drafted 9th by the Calgary Flames in 2003’s NHL Entry Draft. On the day he and the other draft prospect were well dress in some nice suit fabrics. Dion made a whopping NHL debut back in 2005 following a 4-year junior career that he worked hard to build a great reputation with the famous Red Deer Rebels in the Western Hockey League. Here he won the Defenseman of the Year award twice. This man set an exciting Flames record for the highest goals ever by a 1st-year defenseman.

He gained even more fame as he came to be known as one of the finalists working for the CMT (Calder Memorial Trophy) between 2005 and 2006. Just 2 years later, Dion managed to become one of the finalists (with his skills as the best defensemen) for the prestigious James Norris Memorial Trophy, although, sadly, he didn’t win either of the awards.

Phaneuf takes pride of being a 2-time NHL All-Star. He has represented Canada worldwide a total of three times so far. He won silver as well as gold medals by competing in the World Junior Hockey Championship (was held in 2004 and 2005 respectively), and he managed to win a high-status gold medal in Men’s World Ice Hockey Championships in 2007. Everyone is looking forward to what he has up his sleeve next as the new season beckons!
