Tips for Beginning Snowboarders

Snowboarding can be an enjoyable event, but can also lead to nasty wipe outs and injuries for a beginner, especially if you are keen to take on the big hills at your next ski chalet holidays. There are many tips offered by more advanced snowboarders. These will help to prevent falling as well as damage to your equipment or your body. Follow the tips below to help keep yourself safe when just beginning to learn how to snowboard.
Binding your Feet to the Board
Be sure to always strap your front foot to the snowboard first. Leaving the back foot unsecured will allow you to skate to the chair lift. Once you have reached the destination, you can strap the back foot in to prepare for your skate down the hill. To properly bind your feet to the board, knock away any present snow from the area. Place your heel into the cup and strap the ankle in place first. Follow by strapping the toe binding across your foot. Beginners may find it easier to strap their feet onto the board while sitting down, though you can eventually learn how to do so standing up.
Falling
When you are just starting out, falling in inevitable. There are precautions you can take to reduce the likelihood of an injury during a wipe out. When possible, fall uphill. This will limit the impact. If you do fall while going downhill, roll with the fall until you are able to stop yourself. Trying to fight the crash is likely to lead to a more serious injury, especially to your arms and legs if you use them to try to stop too soon.
If you begin to fall backward, ball your hands into a fist. This will allow you to punch the snow, keeping your wrists from becoming injured. With broken wrists being the most common injury for snowboarders, it is ideal to keep your hands in a fist the entire time you are boarding.
