Positron Snowboarding DVD

In the world of Snowboarding, like all of the other extreme sports, there are all sorts of styles, techniques and tricks that you can do. And of course they are all documented on video for posterity and to satisfy the sponsors who give these professional riders all sorts of money, gear, and boards (duly deserved too). But by far the coolest snowboarding DVD that I have ever seen is Positron.

Yeah, I will be the first one to admit that turning a trick in the half pipe is totally cool, and no one will deny the magic when Shaun White debuted the Tomahawk while winning the gold at Vancouver with a little bit of extra flair. But what about the riders that completely reject the whole park idea and trade in ski resorts for a little bit of good ol’ mother nature.

That’s what Positron is all about. Not only that, but this little piece of true color 16mm film shows what I believe is some of the most progressive boarding out there, even though it was filmed way back in 2004. Featuring the indisputable talents of Devun Walsh, Kale Stephans, JF Pelchat, Dionne Delesalle, among many, many others. These boys go to prove that mother nature is still the number one enemy of all snowboarders out there as they fight against it and in most cases (but not all) come out winning.

Along with the creative and advanced snowboarding that is done in this shoot, it is almost worth watching to witness the after mix animation done by the gang at Akcidental Studio. Not, it’s not Pixar, and it may look a little bit lame when compared to what you go and see at the theatre today, but it still makes me smile looking at it.

If you have any interest in extreme snowboarding I would really recommend putting down the Shaun White and X games for just a little bit to check out what happens when there is just a few guys and a mountain.
